Using Specialty Drinks to compliment Event Design

A great way to bring the color palate of a wedding to your guests is by creating specialty drinks at the bar the compliment the event design.  Specialty drinks come in many styles and types.  We have created elaborate drinks based upon a particular favorite libation such as vodka, rum, or tequila as the base alcohol. Whereas other couples have created simplistic everyday drinks such as a Vodka Tonic and Rum and Coke and named them after something their guests would recognize (Nicknames, hometowns, favorite travel destinations, etc).  Recently we took a basic drink, the Cuban Mojito, and added some beautiful color from Lavender syrup, to match the color scheme that was created at the wedding.

Mojito Recipe

  • 1 ounce of Simple Syrup
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
  • 1 sprig fresh mint, crushed
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 2 fluid ounces white rum
  • 4 fluid ounces Club Soda water
  • 1 sprig fresh mint, garnish
  • 1 tablespoon of Monin Lavender Gourmet Syrup

In a highball glass, stir together the simple syrup and lime juice. Mix the mint leaves and drop into glass. Fill glass with crushed ice and pour in rum. Pour in carbonated water to fill the glass. Add Monin Lavender Syrup for color and garnish with a sprig of mint.

There are many ways to add color to popular drinks without compromising the taste of the drink.  Even a few drops of syrup can help dress up the drink.

Fresh fruit can be a great way to add color to basic specialty drinks as well.  Request an orange slice to decorate a typical Vodka Soda, a Kiwi slice in a Cosmopolitan, or a lime in a Rum & Coke to create a Cubra Libra.

When creating a specialty drink for your wedding, be creative and put some thought into what you want to show your guests, or of course you can ask your bar catering provider what fun ideas or drink trends that they would recommend.  Not only can you name your drink to add a personalized touch to your drink menu, but you can also create a custom drink that will add to your overall event design.
