LA Fashion Week at Vibiana

LA Times

This past week we had the pleasure of hosting Style LA Fashion Week where several talented designers presented their Spring/Summer 2012 collections on the runway.

The week began with the vintage inspired designs of Stop Staring! as well as the Alternative Apparel who drew inspiration from the desert sunset colors of Palm Springs.

Closing out the week, Gen Art, an organization who fosters new talent in fashion and film, hosted “Fresh Faces in Fashion”.  The event featured a mix of both apparel and accessory designers, including: Stand and Deliver, Dear Creatures, and We are Handsome. Actress and fashion guru Zoe Saldana served as the evening’s emcee.  Saldana, who is a self-proclaimed supporter of up and coming designers, is “always on the lookout for new talent” for her fashion website My Fashion Database. Prior the runway show, designers Tomtom, Plomo, Sticks and Stones and Iman Toloui displayed their accessory lines in the garden courtyard.  Items ranged from handbags and totes to jewelry made from recycled material and objects found in nature.

Neon Wedding decor by design*sponge

We found an amazing post on Grace Bonney’s design*sponge recently about an exciting way to add a punch of color to your next wedding or special occasion: A Neon color palette. Although it can sound a bit shocking at first, the bold shades of pink, green, yellow and blue can make for an exciting departure from the normal pastels or other elegant yet subdued colors found at more formal events.

We absolutely love the shapes and designs that can be created on plates and walls with something as simple as colored artists tape and the DIY possibilities are endless.

With colors as daring as these, a little bit goes a long way. To bring neon into your event’s color palate, try dipping the ends of silverware into colored Plasti Dip for a surprisingly easy and customizable color addition to your place setting or you can feature small pops of this color palate by using them sparingly in your printed materials or cake design.

Glamourous Wedding by Rustin Michael Photography

Today we are featuring two very special newlyweds that recently had their ceremony and reception at Vibiana. Both the bride and groom are members of the LAPD and we are so very grateful to them for protecting and serving our city and the public day-in and day-out.  We were delighted to have the opportunity to host such an momentous day for them and their families, and the time and thoughtfulness that this couple put into their wedding planning made it just that.

Photographer Rustin Michael captured the day perfectly, and each shot reflected the love the couple shared and the joy of the family and friends that surrounded them. Although there were touching moments throughout the evening, our favorite part was the surprise performance by a lovely trio of exotic belly dancers. The costumes and routines were absolutely amazing and had the guests mesmerized throughout the entire act.

Please see below for more photos from their celebration.
